Anticon roster member Serengeti visits Cincinnati post-Why? tour

One-day fresh off a tour with hometown-related crew Why?, Chicago-based fellow Anticon artist and alt-hip hop/art rap/cross-genre cool cat Serengeti rolls into Cincinnati on Wednesday, September 19, for a FREE show with local artist Abiyah at The Comet in Northside.

He collaborated with Polyphonic as Serengeti & Polyphonic, with Hi-Fidel on two Friday Night albums, and with Renee Louise Carafice and Tony Trimm as Yoome, and, in 2011, Serengeti and Sicker Man released a noise-electro-techno-hiphop record as shtaad,

Serengeti's solo album, Family & Friends, was released on Anticon in 2011, and was produced by Yoni Wolf of Why?, Owen Ashworth of Advance Base and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. He is a member of S / S / S along with Son Lux and Sufjan Stevens. The trio released Beak & Claw in February 2012. Serengeti released his Kenny Dennis EP and C.A.R. on Anticon this year, with both the EP and the album produced by Jel and Odd Nosdam.

Abiyah

Now packaged in a pixie ‘do and a svelte figure, Abiyah flows and sings with the fury of a free wild muse, her cross-genre vocals and floetic lyrics blurring boundaries of avanthiphopdubrocktronica beats. A three-time CityBeat Cincinnati Entertainment Awards Hip Hop nominee and MidPoint Music Festival veteran, Abiyah has performed at NYC’s Sidewalk Cafe with beatboxer Kid Lucky, MC Coole High and Carolina Chocolate Drops beatboxer Adam Matta, opened for avant-hip hop vanguards Mike Ladd and Beans and alt-rapper Louis Logic, and, in 2011, appeared on LA art-rapper Open Mike Eagle’s second full-length offering “Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes” (Hellfyre Club). She is also a poet who has had her work published in the anthology "Bum Rush the Page: A Def Poetry Jam" (Three Rivers Press, 2001), and is a member of the Cincinnati-based all-female poetry troupe Bitch's Brew. Abiyah is planning a Fall 2012 release of "Ring Around the Rosie" on cassingle, with a B-side remix by Coltrane Motion's Michael Bond featuring Brooklyn indie rapper Louis Logic, and is currently working with several collaborators, including future jazz/lo-fi hop hop Russian producer Possible Address.
