You know how we do! The crew of The Brew is back in action for another fun-filled night of poetry and music, this time on the second floor stage of the York Street Cafe in Newport, KY! You can even make it a dinner-and-a-show evening by sampling the deliciousness cooked up in the eclectic (and romantic!) first floor restaurant. Special guest poet Nina Yarbrough will be joining Yvette Nepper, Teisha Murray, and Abiyah on the stage while Ophelia is in Germany for the next few months, while DJ Apryl Reign keeps the party going and host Kathy Y. Wilson makes you laugh, think, (and maybe cry)! Entry is only $5 and the drinks are always flowing at the bar, so make it your business to be there!
The four women poets, host, and DJ convening for The Bitch’s Brew do not shrink from or become enraged by the word bitch; in fact, among them it may be a term of endearment or a secret calling card. With poems spanning subject matter as diverse as their styles, these poetesses fearlessly dish out pieces of their mind flavored generously by the unique life experiences each has interwoven with their artistry. When punctuated by the meticulously crafted musical blends of a world-class DJ and accented with the host’s witty brand of humor, the show flows into poetic, artistically warped snapshot of six women for whom the word “bitch” may well be a compliment. Through words and music, the audience is transported to the very moments that shaped and defined the women before them, allowing them not only a voyeuristic peek into the performers’ psyches but a glimpse into their own as well.
